MPOWER Financing: $100.5 Million Inaugural Private Securitization Completed

By Amit Chowdhry • Oct 21, 2025

MPOWER Financing, a mission-driven fintech company and leading provider of international student loans, has announced the successful completion of its inaugural private securitization, a $100.5 million transaction sold to a private institutional buyer.

The deal marks an important milestone in MPOWER’s capital markets strategy and represents the first in a planned series of programmatic private financings that will complement its established public asset-backed securitization (ABS) program.

The securitized pool comprises U.S. dollar-denominated, fixed-rate loans made to international graduate students pursuing degrees—primarily in STEM, business, and health disciplines—at top universities across the United States and Canada, as well as international refinance loans. The deal builds on MPOWER’s growing reputation among institutional investors who increasingly recognize the value and resilience of this emerging asset class.

According to MPOWER, this inaugural private securitization diversifies its funding sources, expands investor participation, and reinforces its mission to make higher education accessible for talented students around the world. The company’s model combines stable loan performance with measurable social impact, offering investors attractive risk-adjusted returns tied to international lending.

This transaction follows MPOWER’s May 2025 public securitization of $313.2 million in international student loans, which achieved ‘A’ ratings on its senior tranches from DBRS and KBRA. Across both public and private markets, MPOWER has now securitized over $600 million in assets, strengthening its ability to scale its rapidly expanding global loan portfolio.

MPOWER’s mission is closely tied to empowering students from underserved regions. The company reports that 93% of its borrowers said their MPOWER loan was essential in enabling them to complete their education, many being first-generation students from the Global South pursuing graduate-level studies in critical fields. And through these efforts, MPOWER also helps universities recruit diverse student populations while contributing skilled graduates to the U.S. and Canadian economies.

KEY QUOTES:

“This private securitization marks another inflection point in our capital markets journey. Combined with our prior two public market securitizations, this inaugural private financing reflects the growing recognition among institutional investors that international students and skilled workers, particularly those in Graduate STEM, Business, or Health fields, are an attractive borrower segment. These assets combine the stability of graduate student loans with attractive risk adjusted returns tied to international lending while adding to portfolio diversification and social impact.”

“MPOWER’s mission remains deeply tied to its student borrowers, 93% of whom report that their loan was critical in enabling them to complete their education. This deal is not just about capital markets innovation; it’s about empowering talented students—often first-generation and from the Global South—to achieve their dreams, while also supporting universities in recruiting a more diverse student body and contributing to the U.S. and Canadian economies.”
