Multiply Labs raised $75 million in Series B financing to scale its robotic manufacturing platform for advanced medicines. The round brings the company’s total funding to more than $100 million since its founding in 2016. Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong and NantWorks led the financing. New investors included AstraZeneca, Lingotto, Teradyne, and Strange Ventures. Returning investors included Casdin Capital, Lux Capital, Fifty Years, Ora Global, and Founders Fund.
Multiply Labs develops robotic clusters that automate complex biologics manufacturing processes.
The company said its systems can reduce cost per dose by 74% and deliver up to 100 times the throughput of manual manufacturing.
The robotic clusters are designed to integrate with manufacturers’ existing instruments and processes without requiring new facilities or changes to validated production practices.
Multiply Labs initially focused on cell and gene therapies and is expanding into antibodies, viral vectors, and mRNA.
Pharmaceutical and biologics companies own and operate its platform directly rather than using it as an outsourced manufacturing service.
The company plans to use the funding to expand manufacturing capacity, accelerate its product roadmap, and grow engineering, regulatory, and commercial teams.
KEY QUOTES:
“AI is designing more therapies than the industry will ever be able to manufacture. This funding lets us build the capacity to close that gap, so more of the patients who need these treatments can actually get them.”
Fred Parietti, Co-Founder and CEO of Multiply Labs
“The world of physical AI biological manufacturing has arrived. Manufacturing cell therapies is extraordinarily complex. Every step must meet GMP standards when executing the intricate processes of cell manufacturing.”
Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, Founder of NantWorks
“We believe robotics can do for biomanufacturing what it did for automotive and semiconductors: transform highly manual, labor-intensive processes into precise, scalable production systems.”
Dr. Ileana Pirozzi, Lingotto Innovation
