MUSC Health announced that it has acquired Palmetto Primary Care Physicians (PPCP) for $111 million, bringing South Carolina’s largest independent multispecialty care practice into its nonprofit health system.
The transaction was unanimously approved by the Medical University Hospital Authority Board of Trustees at a special meeting on March 2 and became effective on March 3.
Under the agreement, MUSC Health purchased all membership interests in PPCP. Following the acquisition, the physician group will operate as a not-for-profit entity within the MUSC Health family.
Palmetto Primary Care Physicians is the state’s largest independent multispecialty practice, comprising 31 physicians, 95 advanced practitioners, and 40 medical practices. Its services include physical therapy, urgent care, and other specialty clinics operating across South Carolina’s Lowcountry, Midlands, and Myrtle Beach regions.
Founded in 1996, PPCP has built a reputation for its value-based care model, strong patient outcomes, and deep community presence. MUSC Health said the integration of the physician group will strengthen its ability to expand access to primary care as patient demand continues to grow across the state.
Leaders from both organizations said the transaction will enhance care delivery and create opportunities to expand services, training, and research initiatives within the MUSC Health network.
