Mythic announced it has acquired German semiconductor company Videantis GmbH, combining Mythic’s analog compute-in-memory technology with Videantis’ unified digital processor architecture to create a new hybrid AI compute platform focused on energy efficiency across automotive, robotics, defense, edge AI, and data center markets.

The acquisition strengthens Mythic’s position as it accelerates the development of AI chips designed to dramatically reduce power consumption compared to traditional GPU-based systems. The company said the combined platform is targeting up to 100x better energy efficiency than conventional AI acceleration technologies.

The deal follows Mythic’s recently announced collaboration with Honda to co-develop next-generation AI chips for future vehicles and comes after the company completed an oversubscribed $125 million funding round backed by investors including DCVC, NEA, Future Ventures, S3 Ventures, Atreides Management, and SoftBank. European deep-tech investor eCAPITAL also became a shareholder in Mythic as part of the transaction.

Videantis is recognized as one of Europe’s leading digital processor IP companies, with its processor technology powering more than 25 million chips shipped worldwide. The company has deep penetration across Europe’s automotive sector and has developed processor architectures used in compact safety-critical systems, including automatic emergency braking applications.

Mythic said the acquisition significantly expands its transatlantic AI semiconductor footprint, with operations spanning Silicon Valley and Germany. Videantis will continue operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Mythic, and all five founders of Videantis will join Mythic to continue advancing the unified digital architecture and hybrid computing platform.

Videantis’ v-MP6000UDX processor architecture supports deep learning, computer vision, signal processing, video encode and decode, and AI inference workloads using a unified architecture rather than relying on multiple specialized processing blocks. The architecture combines VLIW and SIMD processing approaches to deliver scalable and deterministic compute performance while minimizing data movement and power consumption.

Mythic said the integration of Videantis’ digital processing capabilities with its analog compute-in-memory architecture creates a hybrid AI computing platform that combines ultra-efficient analog matrix operations with flexible digital programmability and workload orchestration.

The combined company plans to target AI infrastructure challenges tied to growing data center energy consumption, with a focus on improving AI performance-per-watt and enabling more efficient AI deployments across edge devices, vehicles, and hyperscale infrastructure.

Mythic also emphasized the strategic significance of establishing a European AI semiconductor platform with manufacturing and engineering capabilities in both Europe and the United States.

KEY QUOTES:

“AI’s present energy consumption is ruinously wasteful, untenable, and destabilizing. With the addition of the amazing team at Videantis, Mythic will provide the world a top-performing AI chip that uses one percent of the energy used by today’s state-of-the art GPUs. We are manufacturing this chip in the US and Europe – providing our customers safety against geopolitical instability. We seek to ensure that the future of AI is sustainable, stable, and abundant.”

Dr. Taner Ozcelik, CEO, Mythic

“Videantis is the best digital architecture we evaluated worldwide. Its unified hardware and software model is elegant, scalable, extraordinarily flexible, and production-proven with zero defects in the field. When combined with Mythic’s analog compute platform, we effectively double our architectural advantage and accelerate the development of the hybrid computer the world needs for the AI era. This acquisition brings together Silicon Valley innovation and German engineering excellence to build the most energy efficient compute platform on the planet.”

Dr. Taner Ozcelik, CEO, Mythic

“For more than a decade, we have continuously refined a unified architecture designed for scalability, determinism, and efficiency. We’ve always believed energy efficiency comes from controlling data movement — explicit memory management beats coherence traffic. Mythic’s compute-in-memory approach applies the same philosophy to the extreme limit. Together we can deliver higher system-level efficiency than either of us alone.”

Dr. Hans-Joachim Stolberg, Founder And CEO, Videantis

“We’ve always envisioned Mythic as a hybrid system, combining the extreme efficiency and performance of analog computing with the programmability and flexibility of digital computing. Videantis adds a key piece of the puzzle, providing flexible computing — handling not only digital operations for attention calculations, but also non-max suppression, video codecs, SLAM, and many other high-performance compute algorithms.”
