Netcraft has appointed cybersecurity industry veteran Darren Lee to its board of directors as the company expands its brand protection and digital risk platform amid growing AI-powered phishing and online fraud.
Lee brings decades of enterprise technology and cybersecurity experience, including more than 14 years at Proofpoint.
His appointment comes as Netcraft says it has taken down nearly one-third of the world’s phishing sites and blocked more than 230 million multichannel threats to date.
Netcraft provides threat detection and disruption technology to companies, banks, governments and other organizations.
The company has been expanding beyond reactive phishing-site takedowns toward preemptive disruption designed to identify and dismantle criminal infrastructure before it can be used against customers.
Management sees that capability becoming more important as attackers increasingly employ AI to scale phishing, impersonation and fraud campaigns.
Lee brings experience scaling a major cybersecurity company through multiple stages of growth.
He joined Proofpoint following its acquisition of NextPage, where he had served as CEO.
At the time, Proofpoint was privately held and generating less than $100 million in annual recurring revenue.
During Lee’s tenure, Proofpoint completed a U.S. IPO and eventually expanded to more than $2 billion in ARR and over 4,000 employees globally.
Lee held multiple senior leadership positions during that period and worked across major products and strategic initiatives.
Netcraft expects to use that background as it expands its product portfolio, go-to-market strategy and international presence.
