Earlier this week, Netflix announced that it hired Bozoma Saint John (known as “Boz”) as the next Chief Marketing Officer from entertainment agency Endeavor. At Endeavor, Saint John oversaw WME, IMG, UFC, Miss Universe, PBR, and 160over90.
Boz was previously Chief Brand Officer at Uber; Head of Global Consumer Marketing, Apple Music & iTunes at Apple; Head of Music and Entertainment Marketing at PepsiCo; Vice President of Marketing and eCommerce at Ashley Stewart; and Senior Account Executive at SpikeDDB (boutique ad agency headed by Spike Lee).
“I’m thrilled to join Netflix, especially at a time when storytelling is critical to our global, societal well-being,” said Boz in a statement. “I feel honored to contribute my experience to an already dynamic legacy, and to continue driving engagement in the future.”
Saint John was born in the U.S. and her family moved to Ghana while she was younger. Then they moved back to the US at age 12.
“Bozoma Saint John is an exceptional marketer who understands how to drive conversations around popular culture better than almost anyone. As we bring more great stories to our members around the world, she’ll define and lead our next exciting phase of creativity and connection with consumers,” added Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos.
Boz has also appeared as a guest lecturer for Harvard MBA students. And she also launched a podcast with Katie Couric called “Back to Biz with Katie and Boz.” In terms of philanthropic efforts, Boz represents Pencils of Promise as a Global Ambassador to Ghana and she serves on the boards of Girls Who Code and Vital Voices.
