New Dawn Bio Raises €2.1 Million Pre-Seed Round To Commercialize Cultured Wood

By Amit Chowdhry ● Jun 7, 2026

New Dawn Bio announced an oversubscribed €2.1 million pre-seed funding round to advance the development and commercialization of cultured wood, a technology designed to produce wood without harvesting trees.

The round was backed by CapitalT, Norrsken Evolve, Ontdekkers Groep, and a group of angel investors that includes Jelle Prins.

Founded by a team with expertise in biotechnology and tissue engineering, New Dawn Bio is developing a process to grow wood through cellular agriculture techniques. The company’s approach seeks to create premium wood materials by cultivating plant cells rather than relying on traditional forestry and harvesting methods.

The funding will be used to accelerate product development and bring cultured wood closer to commercial deployment. The company believes its technology has the potential to transform how wood is produced by reducing reliance on tree harvesting and providing a sustainable alternative for industries that depend on high-quality wood.

New Dawn Bio describes its vision as reimagining one of humanity’s oldest and most widely used materials through advances in biotechnology. By engineering wood at the cellular level, the company aims to create a new category of sustainable materials that can meet growing demand while reducing environmental pressures associated with traditional supply chains.

The company also indicated that it is expanding its team as it enters its next stage of growth and development.

The investment reflects growing interest in bio-based materials and cellular agriculture technologies that seek to produce traditional products through novel biological manufacturing processes.
