It has been about 15 years since Motorola launched its original Razr flip phone and now the company has launched a modernized version of the device. The new $1,499 Motorola Razr — which will be released next month — has a flexible display that folds up when it is not being used.
Here is an overview of the new Motorola Razr specifications that you should know about:
Display/Design
The new Razr features the same original clamshell design as it did in the past. But the T9 keypad from the original Razr has been replaced with a 6.2-inch foldable plastic OLED panel at 2142×876 pixels, a 21:9 aspect ratio, and a 373 ppi. Externally, it has a 2.7-inch glass OLED 800×600 display (4:3).
It is nostalgic to have a phone that folds to open and close again. And it does not make as much noise when you fold it closed like the original Razr.
There have been concerns about whether the foldable design would break and snap like the first iteration of the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
“We didn’t bring the new Motorola razr to market until we knew it was ready. We have full confidence in the durability of the Flex View display, and based on our research, it will last for the average lifespan of a smartphone. We acknowledge this is a brand new technology and we are committed to continue improving as the industry evolves. Therefore, we’ve created a world-class service package to make sure every razr customer has an exceptional experience,” said a Motorola spokesperson in a statement to PhoneArena after being asked about the sturdiness of the device.
Dimensions
The dimensions of the new Motorola Razr are 172x72x6.9mm while unfolded and 94x72x14mm while folded. The weight is 7.2 oz or 205g
Mobile Operating System
The new Motorola Razr ships with Android 9 Pie
Camera
The rear camera is a 16-megapixel (f/1.7 dual pixel AF) and it captures video in 4K.
Front-Facing Camera
The front-facing camera is the same as the main 16-megapixel external camera when it is unfolded. Plus there’s also a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies when the device is unfolded.
Storage
The new Motorola Razr has 128GB of storage, which is decent for industry standards.
Internal Components
Inside of the new Motorola Razr is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor and 6GB of RAM. This is solid and it will make opening apps and performing tasks a zippy experience.
Expandable Storage
Unfortunately, there are no expandable storage options so you will have to make do with the 128GB of storage and utilize cloud storage services for your photos and files as much as possible.
Battery
The battery is 2,510 mAh so you will need to keep a few chargers around. The battery capacity of some of the other smartphones on the market is in the 4,000+ range. Fortunately, the new Motorola Razr has 15W fast battery charging.
Fingerprint Sensor
There is a fingerprint sensor below the screen for security purposes. This is a pretty cool feature to have.
Connectors
There is a USB-C jack built into the new Motorola Razr, but it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. So you will need to have wireless headphones or USB-C headphones if you want to listen to audio from the device without using the built-in speakers.
In The Box
Inside of the box includes the Razr phone, wired USB-C earbuds, a 15W TurboPower charger, a USB-C cable, a headset adaptor, and an accessory case.
Pricing/Availability
The new Motorola Razr is expected to be released in December 2019 on Verizon Wireless at a price of $1,499.
