Nextalia has completed the first close of Nextalia Private Equity II at more than €1.1 billion, securing commitments from over 200 investors within five months.
The Italian investment firm described the closing as the largest in its history. The new capital brings Nextalia’s total assets under management to more than €3.4 billion.
Nextalia Private Equity II will follow the same strategy as its predecessor fund, acquiring majority stakes in high-potential Italian companies operating within sectors and supply chains considered strategically important to the country.
The firm plans to support portfolio companies with growth capital, managerial expertise and access to Nextalia’s broader business network.
Nextalia said the fundraising was supported by the performance of Nextalia Private Equity I, which invested in Italian companies and worked with their management teams to accelerate growth and establish stronger positions within their respective markets.
The first fund has also completed its initial successful exits and generated a gross distributed-to-paid-in capital ratio of 0.54 times.
Investors in Nextalia Private Equity I increased their commitments substantially for the successor vehicle. Nextalia reported a capital re-up rate of 144%, indicating that returning investors collectively committed more capital to Fund II than they had to the first fund.
The firm said this level of renewed support reflects investor confidence in its strategy, operating model and existing investment team.
Nextalia Private Equity II will continue focusing on majority investments, giving the firm the ability to work closely with entrepreneurs and management teams on operational and strategic initiatives.
Its value-creation approach is expected to include helping companies expand internationally, enter new markets and strengthen their leadership teams.
Nextalia also intends to use its network and internal capabilities to help portfolio companies improve their competitiveness and become larger national leaders within strategically important Italian industries.
The new fund will be managed by the same core team responsible for Nextalia Private Equity I, although Nextalia said the group has since been further strengthened.
The more than €1.1 billion first close gives Nextalia substantial capital to pursue new platform investments and support the growth of businesses across Italy.
