NextEra Energy and Google Cloud have unveiled a significant expansion of their longstanding collaboration, launching a broad national initiative that links extensive scale data center development with advanced energy infrastructure and AI-driven modernization.
The companies plan to jointly develop multiple gigawatt-scale data center campuses across the United States, each supported by dedicated land, interconnection, and generation resources to meet accelerating digital and AI-related electricity demand.
The partnership will also drive NextEra Energy’s enterprise-wide digital transformation using Google Cloud’s AI infrastructure and models. This work includes new capabilities for predictive field operations, improved maintenance planning, and enhanced scheduling that help crews respond more effectively to supply chain constraints, weather events, and equipment issues. The effort aims to reduce costs while improving safety and reliability for both the company and its customers.
Both organizations are also working to advance joint technology products. Their first commercial offering is expected in the Google Cloud Marketplace by mid-2026. It will combine NextEra Energy’s operational data with Google’s generative and agentic AI systems to support more accurate forecasting, improved asset intelligence, and greater visibility into system performance. The companies also plan to use Google’s time-series modeling, weather-forecasting tools, and power-flow modeling to support more resilient, cost-effective grid planning.
NextEra Energy and Google are already developing the first three gigawatt-scale campuses and are studying additional sites for expansion. The initiative builds on a relationship that includes approximately 3.5 gigawatts of operational or contracted projects, the restart of the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Iowa, and recent long-term power purchase agreements totaling 600 megawatts in Oklahoma for Google’s infrastructure needs.
NextEra Energy, based in Juno Beach, Florida, is one of North America’s most significant electric power and energy infrastructure companies and owns both Florida Power & Light Company and NextEra Energy Resources. Google Cloud serves customers in more than 200 countries and territories through its AI infrastructure, chips, security technologies, developer tools, and applications.
