Nina Capital has invested in Woodway Assurance, a Canadian health technology company developing software that helps healthcare and life sciences organizations use sensitive data for artificial intelligence, analytics and information-sharing projects.
Woodway’s flagship product, EviData, is an automated and AI-enabled platform that evaluates privacy risks across structured datasets and unstructured text.
The software recommends and performs privacy-preserving transformations and evaluates whether de-identified, anonymized and synthetic datasets meet relevant privacy requirements.
EviData also generates objective evidence aligned with established regulatory guidance and international standards.
These include International Organization for Standardization de-identification standards, anonymization expectations under the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation and the Expert Determination Method under the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
Woodway designed the platform to give business, technical, privacy, legal and governance teams a consistent basis for deciding whether and how health data can be used.
The company said healthcare and life sciences organizations often possess valuable information that could support research, AI development and improved patient care, but projects can be delayed by uncertainty about privacy, regulation and operational risk.
The investment follows the launch of EviData 3.0, growth in Woodway’s customer base and the formation of new strategic partnerships.
Woodway plans to use the capital for product development, commercial expansion and entry into additional international markets.
The financing builds on the company’s C$1 million seed round announced in December 2025.
Woodway is a spinout from the Electronic Health Information Laboratory at the CHEO Research Institute.
The company builds on more than 20 years of privacy and data research conducted by founder and CEO Dr. Khaled El Emam and the laboratory’s team.
Nina Capital has invested in more than 50 healthcare technology companies across nearly 20 countries since 2019.
