Nopan Raises €7.2 Million To Expand Account And Wallet Payments Platform

Nopan, a performance platform for account and digital wallet payments, has raised €7.2 million in total funding, including a new investment round led by Newion. Existing investors Crane and Seedcamp participated in the latest financing, along with a group of angel investors with experience across merchant payments and financial technology.

The Amsterdam-based company plans to use the funding to expand its coverage of account-based and wallet payment methods across Europe, develop additional payment optimization capabilities, and strengthen its commercial operations.

Nopan was founded by former Netflix payments executives Konstantin Surkov and Nick Ryabov. The founders created the company to address the operational challenges businesses encounter after introducing new payment methods.

While connecting a merchant to an account-based or wallet payment option can be relatively straightforward, Nopan said making that method reliable and effective at scale requires continuous optimization.

Payment performance can vary based on bank connectivity, routing decisions, consumer behavior, geographic markets, and the operational characteristics of individual payment methods.

Nopan provides an infrastructure and optimization layer designed to help digital businesses and payment service providers improve conversion rates, reduce transaction costs, and generate stronger commercial outcomes from account and wallet payments.

The company focuses exclusively on payment methods outside the traditional card ecosystem. Much of the existing global payments infrastructure was originally designed around credit and debit cards, creating gaps as alternative methods become more widely adopted.

Account-based payment systems generally allow consumers to pay merchants directly from their bank accounts. Digital wallets can store payment credentials or enable transactions through connected accounts and other funding sources.

These payment options are becoming more prominent across Europe, supported by established local methods and newer pan-European initiatives such as Wero.

However, digital businesses expect alternative payment methods to provide the same reliability, scalability, reporting, and operational maturity they have developed around card payments.

Nopan’s platform is intended to help merchants and payment service providers manage those requirements across multiple financial institutions, customer segments, and European markets.

Its technology continuously evaluates factors such as transaction routing, bank connectivity, payment method behavior, and operational performance. This approach is designed to increase the percentage of successfully completed transactions while reducing unnecessary payment expenses.

Nopan aims to become the default performance platform for digital businesses and fintech companies seeking to introduce, optimize, and scale account and wallet payment methods across Europe.

The company secured a license from De Nederlandsche Bank during the fourth quarter of 2025, providing a regulatory foundation for its payment operations.

Nopan also joined the European Payments Initiative as a Principal Member. The membership enables the company to help digital businesses and payment service providers introduce and optimize Wero, the European digital payment wallet developed by EPI.

The company is already operating with its initial customers and said it is receiving growing interest from enterprise businesses and payment service providers throughout Europe.

Nopan believes its founders’ experience managing payments from the merchant side gives the company insight into the challenges large digital businesses face when operating payment systems across markets.

The new funding will enable Nopan to broaden its payment method coverage and add tools that help customers evaluate payment performance through measurable business metrics.

The company will also invest in the infrastructure and operational expertise needed to support merchants as transaction volume and payment complexity increase.

Newion invests in business-to-business technology companies across the Benelux, Nordic, and DACH regions, with a focus on infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and fintech. The venture capital firm primarily invests during the seed and Series A stages.

Crane invests in foundational technologies at their earliest stages and works with founders on company development, go-to-market strategy, and international expansion.

Seedcamp is a European seed fund that has invested in more than 500 companies, including Revolut, Wise, UiPath, Synthesia, and Fluidstack.

With support from its investors, Nopan plans to continue building the infrastructure needed to turn account and wallet payment options from basic checkout features into reliable revenue and conversion drivers.

KEY QUOTES:

“Nick and I experienced first-hand how much value can be created when payment methods are properly optimised. Launching a new payment method is only the beginning. The real challenge is making it perform reliably across banks, customer behaviours, operational processes and, where relevant, across markets. Nopan was created to solve exactly that challenge.”

Konstantin Surkov, Co-Founder and CEO of Nopan

“Nopan is addressing a clear and growing need in the payments market. Account and wallet payments represent a major opportunity, but the infrastructure required to make them perform at scale is still emerging. With its deep merchant-side payments experience and highly focused technology platform, we believe Nopan is uniquely positioned to become a category leader in this next phase of payments.”
