Nordic Ferry Infrastructure: EQT Sells 30% Stake To Consortium To Support Expansion

By Amit Chowdhry ● Apr 9, 2026

EQT has agreed to sell a 30% minority stake in Nordic Ferry Infrastructure (NFI) to a consortium consisting of Rederiaktiebolaget Gotland AB, Interogo Infrastructure, and Lægernes Pension, while retaining majority ownership of the business. The deal is intended to broaden NFI’s investor base and support its next phase of development.

Headquartered in Oslo, NFI has been built under EQT’s ownership through a series of acquisitions, including Molslinjen and Torghatten in 2021 and 2022, followed by ForSea in 2023. The company now operates 59 ferry routes with 101 vessels across Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, covering more than 1,400 km and serving over 25 million passengers annually. Its services provide critical transport links for passengers and vehicles, often operating at high frequency in partnership with local transport authorities.

Since its formation, NFI has focused on scaling operations, improving efficiency, and integrating digital systems across its platform. EQT has supported the development of centralized group functions, strengthened management capabilities, and introduced a sustainability-linked capital structure to drive long-term value creation.

The company has also prioritized fleet modernization and decarbonization, including electrification initiatives that contributed to an 11 percent reduction in total CO2 emissions between 2022 and 2024. These efforts position NFI as a key player in lower-emission maritime transport infrastructure across the Nordic region.

With the addition of new investors, NFI plans to accelerate investments in fleet decarbonization and electrification, pursue selective growth opportunities, and continue operational improvements. The expanded investor base is expected to provide additional capital and strategic support as the company advances its position as a leading pan-Nordic ferry infrastructure platform.

The transaction remains subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions.
