Northrop Grumman Awarded $43.9 Million Contract For Trident II Rocket Motor Production Facilities

Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. has been awarded a $43.9 million U.S. Navy contract to support the design of new rocket motor production facilities and equipment in Magna, Utah.

The $43,856,500 firm-fixed-price contract, designated N0003027C2002, will support the development of new dry and grind production capabilities at the Naval Industrial Reserve Ordnance Plant, or NIROP, in Magna.

The new facilities and equipment are intended to support production activities associated with the TRIDENT II (D5) Strategic Weapon System, the submarine-launched ballistic missile system used by the U.S. Navy.

Northrop Grumman’s work under the contract will focus on designing the infrastructure and equipment needed for rocket motor dry and grind production. These processes are part of the manufacturing and preparation activities required to support solid rocket motor production.

All work under the contract will be performed in Magna, Utah, where Northrop Grumman maintains significant operations supporting propulsion and strategic weapons programs. The Navy expects the work to be completed by August 31, 2028.

The full contract value of $43,856,500 will be obligated at the time of the award using fiscal 2026 Navy weapons procurement funds. The Department of Defense said none of the obligated funding is expected to expire at the end of the fiscal year.

The contract was awarded to Northrop Grumman as a sole-source acquisition under federal procurement authorities that allow agencies to select a single supplier when only one responsible source can meet the government’s requirements.

The latest award supports continued investment in the industrial base needed to manufacture and sustain strategic missile systems. By expanding and modernizing rocket motor production infrastructure, the Navy is seeking to maintain reliable manufacturing capacity for the TRIDENT II program over the long term.

The TRIDENT II (D5) is a key component of the United States’ sea-based strategic deterrent and is deployed aboard ballistic missile submarines. Maintaining the supporting manufacturing infrastructure is therefore an important part of sustaining the system’s production and readiness.

PAE Strategic Systems Programs in Washington, D.C., is the contracting activity.
