Northwestern Mutual launched Family Office Services, an integrated offering designed to provide coordinated financial planning and wealth management services for ultra-high-net-worth clients. The service is designed for clients with at least $50 million in net worth.
Northwestern Mutual is supporting the offering with a dedicated team of more than 40 in-house specialists who will work alongside the company’s advisors and advisory teams nationwide.
The service combines legal, tax, investment, banking and lending, philanthropy, legacy planning, risk management, and founder and business planning capabilities.
Northwestern Mutual said the model is intended to provide greater coordination for clients whose wealth involves multiple entities, businesses, investments, advisors, and generations.
The offering keeps the financial advisor at the center of the client relationship while providing access to specialized expertise.
Northwestern Mutual said the service can help advisors operate as a central point of coordination across a client’s broader financial picture.
The launch comes as the number of wealthy and ultra-high-net-worth households in the U.S. continues to increase.
Northwestern Mutual cited research showing that more than 100,000 U.S. households now have financial wealth exceeding $50 million.
The company’s 2026 Planning & Progress Study also found that 52% of high-net-worth Americans with at least $1 million in investable assets believe their financial planning needs improvement.
Another 52% said they place too much emphasis on growing wealth relative to protecting it from risks such as taxes.
One in four high-net-worth individuals surveyed said they sought professional advice from a financial advisor for the first time during the prior year.
Northwestern Mutual has more than $450 billion in retail client investment assets held or managed through its wealth and investment management businesses.
KEY QUOTES:
“Many affluent families have strong individual advisors but lack coordination across their full financial picture. Our Family Office Services team brings those fractured and fragmented pieces together – aligning investment, insurance, tax, and legacy strategies under one strategically connected approach.”
“A dedicated family office model creates a single point of accountability across a client’s full financial picture. Backed by a team of experts, our advisors can operate as ‘quarterbacks’ of their clients’ finances without needing to identify specialists on their own.”
John Roberts, Chief Field Officer at Northwestern Mutual
