Norton Rose Fulbright has added an eight-lawyer real estate team in New York led by partners David Szeker, Darwin Huang and Matt McElroy, significantly expanding the firm’s capabilities across real estate transactions, financing, litigation, restructuring and distressed situations.
The group joins from Kasowitz and also includes senior counsel Kathleen Maurer and Robert Novick, associates Jason Re, Christina Sim and Amanda Bradley, and practice specialist Hyacinth Buckmore.
The team advises private equity funds, developers, institutional investors, family offices and lenders across major U.S. real estate markets.
Its transactional work spans acquisitions and dispositions, joint ventures, preferred equity investments, mortgage and mezzanine financings, development and leasing across multifamily, industrial, office, hospitality, retail and mixed-use assets.
The group also brings substantial experience in distressed real estate, including restructurings, loan workouts, foreclosures and related disputes.
That combination expands Norton Rose Fulbright’s ability to work across the full lifecycle of real estate investments, including situations where financing or ownership structures become distressed.
The addition comes as the firm sees renewed momentum in New York commercial real estate, including leasing, investment sales and office-to-residential conversions.
Szeker advises developers, private equity sponsors, institutional investors, lenders, landlords, tenants and family offices on transactions throughout the U.S. His work includes acquisitions, joint ventures, preferred equity, mortgage and mezzanine financings, developments, leasing and distressed matters.
Huang focuses on complex financings, construction loans, joint ventures, workouts and foreclosures and also represents international investors, including clients based in Asia.
McElroy represents private funds, REITs, banks and other investors across sophisticated debt and equity financings, including mortgage and mezzanine loans, preferred equity, syndications, participations and intercreditor arrangements.
The group’s arrival expands a U.S. real estate practice that now includes more than 50 lawyers.
