NRG Energy announced that Glenn Wright has been appointed to the company’s Board of Directors, effective May 26, 2026.
Antonio Carrillo, NRG Board Chair, said Wright brings deep experience across power markets, customer energy solutions, and complex portfolio management. Carrillo noted that Wright’s perspective will support NRG’s focus on disciplined execution, long-term value creation, and customer service as the company continues advancing its strategy.
Wright’s appointment expands the NRG Board to 11 members and strengthens the company’s governance and oversight capabilities.
Wright most recently served at Shell plc as Senior Vice President of Shell Energy Americas and President and Chief Executive Officer of Shell New Energies, US from 2020 through 2025. In those roles, he led initiatives focused on renewable generation growth and integrated energy solutions for customers throughout North and South America.
Before that, Wright served as Vice President of Shell Energy Trading Americas and President and Chief Executive Officer of Shell Energy North America from 2016 to 2020. He oversaw wholesale power and gas trading operations across the Americas, as well as retail and commercial power businesses and customer-focused energy offerings.
Earlier in his career at Shell, Wright held several senior leadership positions, including General Manager of Power Trading at Shell Energy North America, General Manager of Business Development at Shell Lubricants, and General Manager of Portfolio Projects at Shell Oil Products in the United States. His experience spans wholesale energy markets, portfolio management, commercial optimization, engineering, manufacturing, and process development.
Wright also previously held leadership roles at Enterprise Business Development Inc. and Enron Corporation.
He earned a Ph.D. and an MS in chemical engineering, along with an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BS in chemical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
NRG provides electricity, natural gas, and smart home solutions to approximately eight million customers across North America. The company operates about 25 GW of power generation capacity and focuses on delivering flexible and affordable energy solutions for residential and commercial customers.
