Nutanix has acquired France-based Ryax Technologies, an AI-driven compute orchestration and management company, to expand its hybrid cloud and AI infrastructure capabilities and help enterprises deploy and operate agentic AI workloads across increasingly complex computing environments.
Nutanix plans to integrate Ryax’s GPU utilization and intelligent workload scheduling capabilities into Nutanix Kubernetes Platform and Nutanix Enterprise AI. The company said the acquisition is intended to help customers build, run and govern agentic AI across private data centers, hyperscale clouds and emerging neocloud providers.
Financial terms were not disclosed. Nutanix said the financial impact of the transaction is not material to the company.
Ryax specializes in automating how AI workloads are deployed across heterogeneous computing infrastructure.
That problem has become increasingly important as demand for GPUs rises and organizations distribute their AI workloads across multiple environments to find available computing capacity.
Rather than relying on a single cloud or data center, enterprises may operate AI workloads across their own infrastructure, major hyperscalers and specialized GPU cloud providers.
That creates a scheduling and optimization problem: companies need to determine where workloads should run, which GPUs or CPUs should be allocated to them and how to balance cost, availability and performance.
Ryax’s platform is designed to automate much of that process.
Nutanix identified two primary capabilities it expects to gain from the acquisition: intelligent resource optimization and AI-aware smart scheduling.
The resource optimization technology is intended to help enterprises make more effective use of available GPUs and CPUs, potentially improving performance while reducing idle capacity and infrastructure waste.
AI-aware smart scheduling is designed to automatically place AI workloads on hardware that provides an appropriate combination of performance and cost.
Together, those capabilities could help organizations increase utilization of expensive GPU infrastructure.
The acquisition also addresses another challenge Nutanix sees across enterprise AI: moving projects from experimentation into production.
Many companies can develop prototypes using AI models but encounter significantly more complexity when those workloads need to be deployed securely and reliably across production infrastructure.
Nutanix said Ryax automates portions of the underlying infrastructure, data, hardware and code required for AI deployment, helping reduce manual integration work.
That technology will become part of Nutanix’s broader AI infrastructure strategy.
Nutanix Enterprise AI is designed to simplify deployment and management of generative and agentic AI applications, while Nutanix Kubernetes Platform provides infrastructure for running containerized applications across hybrid environments.
Integrating Ryax could give both products more intelligence around how computing resources are allocated.
Nutanix plans to introduce the Ryax technology into future releases of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform and Nutanix Enterprise AI.
Ryax’s employees will join Nutanix in France and continue developing the technology as part of the larger organization.
The deal comes as agentic AI creates new infrastructure demands for enterprises.
Agentic systems can perform multi-step tasks, invoke tools and operate more autonomously than traditional chatbot-style applications, potentially increasing both the number and complexity of inference workloads running inside organizations.
That can make infrastructure utilization increasingly important, particularly when GPU capacity remains expensive or difficult to secure.
Nutanix is positioning its hybrid cloud architecture as a way to abstract much of that complexity and allow companies to operate AI workloads wherever computing resources are available.
Ryax adds an orchestration layer designed to determine how those resources can be used more efficiently.
The acquisition therefore expands Nutanix’s AI strategy beyond providing infrastructure into optimizing how that infrastructure is consumed.
Nutanix said its platform is used by more than half of the Global 2000, giving Ryax technology a potentially significantly larger enterprise distribution channel after it is integrated into the company’s products.
