Nuvei Reportedly In Advanced Talks To Acquire Payoneer For $2.7 Billion

Canadian payments company Nuvei is reportedly in advanced discussions to acquire cross-border payments provider Payoneer Global for approximately $2.7 billion, according to Reuters.

The reported purchase price includes Payoneer’s cash holdings and implies an enterprise value of roughly $2.3 billion. Sources told Reuters that Montreal-based Nuvei could sign an agreement to acquire the New York-based company within days, although the discussions remain ongoing and there is no guarantee that a deal will be completed.

A combination of the two companies would bring together Nuvei’s merchant payment-processing capabilities with Payoneer’s network to facilitate payments to suppliers, freelancers, and online sellers. The transaction would also strengthen Nuvei’s position in emerging markets and provide access to Payoneer’s relationships with major online marketplaces, including Amazon, Walmart, and eBay.

The report comes amid a broader trend of consolidation in the payments industry as companies seek additional scale and exposure to higher-growth areas such as cross-border and business-to-business payments.

Nuvei has pursued an acquisition-driven growth strategy since being taken private in a roughly $6.3 billion buyout led by Advent International in 2024, alongside existing investors Novacap and CDPQ. The company provides payment processing, risk management, and payout solutions to merchants worldwide.

Payoneer, which currently has a market capitalization of approximately $1.7 billion, focuses on cross-border transactions for freelancers, online merchants, and small businesses. A significant portion of its business is derived from emerging markets, with customers in Greater China accounting for 34% of revenue in 2025.

According to company filings, Payoneer generated revenue of $1.05 billion in 2025, up 8% year over year. However, net income declined 40% to $73.2 million due to lower interest income and higher operating expenses.
