NVIDIA and Coherent, an optical components and photonics technology company, announced a multiyear strategic partnership to advance advanced optics technologies aimed at scaling next-generation AI data center infrastructure.
As part of the nonexclusive agreement, NVIDIA is making a $2 billion investment in Coherent to support research and development, future capacity expansion, and operations as Coherent builds out its U.S.-based manufacturing capabilities. The deal also includes a multibillion-dollar purchase commitment from NVIDIA, along with future access and capacity rights for advanced laser and optical networking products.
The companies said the partnership is designed to expand manufacturing capacity and accelerate innovation in optical interconnects and advanced package integration, which are increasingly critical to enabling ultrahigh-bandwidth, energy-efficient connectivity across AI factories and large-scale data centers.
By combining NVIDIA’s leadership in AI, accelerated computing, and networking with Coherent’s expertise in optical innovation and advanced manufacturing, the collaboration aims to scale research and development and production capacity to support the global buildout of next-generation AI infrastructure.
Coherent, founded in 1971 and operating in more than 20 countries, provides photonics technologies used across datacenter, communications, and industrial markets. NVIDIA, based in Santa Clara, California, is a leader in AI and accelerated computing.
