NxLite has raised $9.2 million in Series A funding, aimed at accelerating the deployment of its innovative energy-control coatings. This investment will also support the company’s efforts to expand operations at its Advanced Innovation & Manufacturing (AIM) Center. The funding round was led by Crabtree Lane Alt, LLC, a financial investor based in Chicago, and saw participation from several key players in the door and window manufacturing industry, along with venture capital firms including Earth Foundry, MUUS, New Climate Ventures, and ACT Venture Partners from the Netherlands.
With this funding, NxLite plans to enhance its capacity to meet the increasing demand for its window and transparent surface solutions. The company will also focus on strengthening its commercial operations in Michigan and accelerating its go-to-market strategy. Building additional strategic relationships will be essential to capture high-growth market segments and establish a more substantial presence in the industry.
NxLite’s air-stable coatings stand out because they can be applied to both single-pane and multi-pane window applications. This flexibility allows for unique design possibilities and retrofitting opportunities for a variety of transparent materials such as glass, acrylic, and polycarbonate. This is a significant advantage over traditional coating solutions, which often lack such versatility.
The coatings developed by NxLite have numerous practical applications. In residential and commercial settings, they can drastically reduce heating and cooling costs for homeowners and property owners alike. Additionally, the coatings are ideal for refrigeration display doors, where they enhance energy efficiency and help minimize spoilage of perishable items.
For existing buildings that require upgrading to modern energy standards, NxLite’s window inserts offer a practical retrofitting solution. The lightweight nature of NxLite’s coatings also contributes to improved fuel efficiency and longer ranges in transportation applications, along with better climate control inside vehicles.
NxLite has already formed joint development agreements and secured offtake purchase orders with some of the leading firms in the window manufacturing, plastics, and food and beverage sectors. This positions them firmly in various industries that value innovative energy solutions.
As a global concern, buildings account for a significant percentage of energy consumption, and windows are one of the primary culprits behind heat gain and loss. According to data from the U.S. Department of Energy, up to 30% of energy used for heating and cooling in buildings is lost through windows.
This presents a substantial opportunity for NxLite’s technology to deliver both immediate environmental benefits and economic advantages. Armed with this new funding, NxLite is poised to make a meaningful impact in reducing energy waste and improving energy efficiency in buildings.
