Dainius Sapežinskas’ Background

Dainius Sapežinskas

When asked about his background, Sapežinskas shared:

I started my career in corporate finance before moving into executive leadership roles in the technology sector. I joined OBDeleven as CFO in 2022 and became CEO in 2023.

That transition gave me a unique perspective, combining financial discipline with long-term product and business strategy. Today my focus is scaling the company internationally while continuing to build innovative solutions that simplify car ownership.

How OBDeleven Started

When asked how the idea for the company came together, Sapežinskas explained:

OBDeleven was founded by two automotive electricians and a software engineer who wanted to automate the repetitive diagnostic work they were doing every day.

They built software to make their own work faster and more efficient, and soon other workshops and drivers wanted the same solution.

What started as a tool for professionals grew organically into a platform used by millions of drivers around the world.

Financial Times Recognition

When asked about his favorite memory working for the company so far, Sapežinskas recalled:

One of the proudest moments was seeing OBDeleven included in the Financial Times FT1000 ranking as the first Lithuanian company recognized in the Automotive category.

Core Products And Features

When asked about the company’s core products and features, Sapežinskas detailed:

Our platform combines a compact hardware device with a mobile application that allows drivers to diagnose, maintain and customize their vehicles.

Alongside professional diagnostics, we offer maintenance functions, One-Click Apps, advanced coding, live vehicle data and an expanding range of connected services, including AI-powered diagnostics and trip analysis.

Access To OEM Diagnostics Data

When asked about challenges in the company’s sector, Sapežinskas noted:

We only implement new car brands’ support into our portfolio by buying official diagnostics data from OEMs. This is a major limiting factor as manufacturers are reluctant to provide full access.

Right-to-repair regulation is pushing OEMs to provide the data, but there are still many roadblocks to getting it.

Technology Evolution

When asked how the company’s technology has evolved since launching, Sapežinskas explained:

When we launched, our focus was simple: make professional diagnostics more accessible. Since then, both the product and the market have changed dramatically.

We’ve introduced three generations of our hardware devices, transformed our mobile app into a connected vehicle platform, expanded support from one manufacturer to five major automotive groups, and introduced features such as One-Click Apps, hybrid battery diagnostics, AI-powered insights, and real-time vehicle data.

Today, diagnostics are just one part of the platform. We’re building a platform that helps drivers better understand, manage, and get more from their vehicles.

Major Company Milestones

When asked about some of the company’s most significant milestones, Sapežinskas said:

Securing our first official Volkswagen Group license fundamentally changed the company’s trajectory.

Since then, we’ve expanded our official partnerships to include BMW Group, Toyota Group, Ford US and Mercedes-Benz, grown to more than 6 million connected vehicles, entered the Financial Times FT1000 ranking and continued expanding internationally.

Customer Savings

When asked to share a specific customer success story, Sapežinskas highlighted:

One of the strongest indicators of our impact comes from how people use OBDeleven. In the UK alone, users completed more than 750,000 diagnostic scans over the past year.

Based on average workshop diagnostic costs, that’s nearly £9 million in potential savings, with the average user saving around £240 annually.

Those numbers demonstrate how technology can make vehicle ownership both simpler and more affordable.

Revenue Growth

When asked about funding and revenue metrics, Sapežinskas shared:

Yes. OBDeleven has been a bootstrapped company since its early days, funding growth through its own operations rather than external investment.

In 2025, revenue reached €19.2 million, representing 25% YoY growth. Over the past four years, we’ve more than doubled revenue while remaining profitable.

Market Opportunity

When discussing the total addressable market OBDeleven is pursuing, Sapežinskas explained:

We don’t define our market as automotive diagnostics alone. Every connected vehicle owner is a potential customer.

As cars become increasingly software-defined, the demand for tools that help drivers understand, manage, and maintain their vehicles will continue to grow.

Today, we work with some of the world’s biggest automotive brands, representing hundreds of millions of cars on the road.

Every new manufacturer we add opens the door to millions of new potential customers, so our market keeps growing.

Competitive Differentiation

When asked what differentiates OBDeleven from its competition, Sapežinskas emphasized:

We don’t just build diagnostic tools; we help people understand their cars. Our goal is to make professional vehicle technology accessible to everyone, regardless of their technical knowledge.

Features like One-Click Apps and AI-powered fault explanations are designed to remove complexity, helping drivers understand what is happening, how serious it is, and what they should do next. We give drivers confidence.

Also, we believe drivers should never have to choose between functionality and security. That’s why we invest heavily in official manufacturer partnerships and secure integrations, ensuring users can access advanced features without compromising reliability or safety.

Future Goals

When discussing the company’s future goals, Sapežinskas concluded:

Our ambition is simple: if you own a car, you shouldn’t need to be a mechanic to understand it.

We’re focused on making our technology accessible to a much broader audience. What started as a tool for enthusiasts is becoming a platform designed for every driver.
