Open-source software company Obot AI has closed a $35 million seed funding round. This substantial investment, co-led by prominent venture capital firms Mayfield Fund and Nexus Venture Partners, will fuel the company’s ambitious plans to develop secure, enterprise-ready platforms that adhere to the emerging Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard.
The newly acquired capital is earmarked to significantly expand the development of Obot AI’s groundbreaking open-source projects. Among these are the Obot MCP Gateway and the Nanobot MCP Agent Framework, both designed to revolutionize how businesses interact with and manage artificial intelligence. The funding will also support the critical growth of Obot AI’s engineering and product teams, enabling them to accelerate innovation and deliver cutting-edge solutions.
Launched in August 2025, the Obot MCP Gateway provides a unified and open-source control plane, enabling IT departments to effectively manage and secure their MCP servers. This crucial tool also facilitates the creation of robust, MCP-enabled AI solutions, addressing a growing need within the enterprise landscape. As organizations increasingly integrate AI tools and capabilities into their operations, IT leaders face the complex challenge of providing broad access while simultaneously maintaining stringent control and ensuring the highest levels of safety and security. The Obot MCP Gateway directly addresses this issue, providing a clear and streamlined pathway for organizations to adopt new AI technologies confidently.
Building on its innovative suite, the Nanobot introduces a comprehensive agent framework specifically designed around the MCP and MCP-UI. This framework is designed to facilitate the development of sophisticated AI agents that can deliver dynamic user interfaces directly within chat environments, thereby significantly enhancing the user experience and the practical application of AI in everyday business operations.
The leadership team behind Obot AI boasts a remarkable track record of success in the open-source industry. They were previously instrumental in establishing Rancher Labs, which was later acquired by SUSE, and Cloud.com, which Citrix acquired. These two companies played a pivotal role in redefining how enterprises adopt and scale open-source platforms. With Obot AI, the seasoned team is now dedicated to achieving similar transformative results within the realm of AI technologies, aiming to make advanced AI accessible and manageable for businesses worldwide.
