The Ohio State University and Google Cloud have launched a strategic partnership spanning scientific research, campus technology, AI education and student services.
The initiative will establish an AI-focused space within Ohio State’s Innovation District and create research collaborations involving Google DeepMind.
Ohio State researchers will gain access to Google’s AI-optimized computing infrastructure and more than 200 AI models.
The partnership also includes access to technologies such as AlphaFold, Google Earth Engine and AlphaEvolve.
Ohio State will be part of an initial group of R1 universities receiving enterprise access to Google’s AI research agents through Gemini Enterprise.
Those tools are intended to help researchers generate and test scientific hypotheses and shorten research timelines.
Core research areas will include biomedical engineering, earth sciences and the humanities.
The partnership will also support Project SCARLET, an AI-powered human performance platform being developed with Ohio State Athletics and the Human Performance Collaborative.
Project SCARLET will use predictive models, computer vision and analytics to support training, recovery and health across all 36 Ohio State sports.
On the education side, select students, faculty and staff will receive access to Google Workspace for Education and Gemini Enterprise.
Ohio State also plans to launch a 24/7 AI-powered student concierge to support academic advising, registrar services and career planning.
A Google Public Sector research ambassador program will recruit Ohio State students to work alongside Google teams and gain industry experience.
The collaboration will additionally explore AI-enabled campus infrastructure, cybersecurity automation and tools intended to reduce administrative barriers for faculty and staff.
Ohio State described the agreement as one of Google’s largest and most comprehensive education partnerships with a U.S. university.
