Omada Acquires EmpowerID To Expand AI Agent Governance

Omada has acquired EmpowerID, expanding its identity governance platform with real-time security and authorization capabilities for AI agents. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The combination is intended to help enterprises govern human users, applications, workloads and autonomous AI agents through a common identity security framework.

Omada said traditional identity access controls were largely built around human users and may not provide adequate controls for software agents capable of independently making decisions and interacting with sensitive enterprise systems at machine speed.

EmpowerID adds runtime authorization capabilities that can determine whether an agent is permitted to perform a specific action at the moment the request occurs.

The combined platform is intended to provide a single view of identities, entitlements and relationships across connected systems and apply that information to governance, authorization and risk evaluation.

Capabilities will include discovery of AI agents and their tools, ownership and lifecycle management, certification of access, real-time control of permitted actions and continuous compliance evidence.

The transaction follows Omada’s June introduction of its Agent Governance solution.

EmpowerID CEO and co-founder Patrick Parker will join Omada as Chief Innovation Officer and help integrate EmpowerID’s technology while developing additional identity security capabilities.

Stephens provided strategic advice to Omada and its shareholders on the transaction.

KEY QUOTES:

“AI agents are already acting inside enterprise systems faster than most security teams can track. This acquisition means we can tell customers not just what their agents have access to, but we can also stop those agents the moment they step outside the lines, in real time, not after the fact. That’s the difference between governing AI and just monitoring it.”

Jakob H. Kraglund, CEO of Omada

“We built EmpowerID to govern identity as one platform that manages every human and AI agent and proves in real time what each one is allowed to do. With Omada, we continue building on that foundation and bring it to enterprises at a scale we could not reach alone. It’s what the AI era demands, and together we can deliver it faster than anyone.”

Patrick Parker, CEO and Co-Founder of EmpowerID

“AI agents act at machine speed, and governing them after the fact is not enough. With EmpowerID, Omada adds runtime authorization and security for AI agents to its IGA foundation, extending governance from who is entitled to access to what agents are actually permitted to do, as they do it.”
