Omega Ophthalmics has raised $7 million in Series A financing to advance its Gemini Refractive Capsule, a next-generation implant technology designed for cataract surgery. The round was led by a group of strategically aligned ultra-high-net-worth investors.
The financing will support continued product development, intellectual property activities, regulatory work, manufacturing scale-up and clinical planning as Omega prepares for future FDA studies and potential commercialization.
Omega has also scheduled an FDA pre-submission meeting as it works toward a U.S. regulatory pathway for the Gemini Refractive Capsule. The meeting is expected to help the company align its proposed regulatory and clinical development plans with feedback from the FDA review team before initiating U.S. clinical studies.
The Gemini Refractive Capsule is designed as a stable, biologically integrated platform for intraocular lens implantation while preserving the capsular bag. Omega believes the approach could improve long-term refractive stability while allowing future lens exchanges and potentially accommodating new ophthalmic technologies.
The company recently presented its clinical development strategy at the Octane Ophthalmology Tech Forum, where COO John Sheets Jr. discussed Omega’s plans with investors, industry executives and strategic partners.
