Omio announced a $10 million strategic investment from Granite-Integral to accelerate its expansion across Japan and Southeast Asia. The investment was revealed just days after Omio announced an agreement to acquire Rail Europe, reflecting the travel platform’s broader effort to strengthen its international presence and expand the transportation options available to customers.
Granite-Integral brings experience across Asia’s travel and technology sectors, along with local market knowledge and established regional relationships. Omio said the partnership will help it expand its network of transportation providers, strengthen relationships with rail, bus, ferry and other travel operators, and continue improving the booking experience for customers across the region.
The investment is expected to support Omio as it works to connect more Asian transportation inventory to its platform. Building those connections can be complex because countries and operators often use different booking systems, pricing structures, languages and distribution models. Omio’s platform is designed to simplify that process by allowing travelers to compare routes, schedules and transportation options through one service.
Japan has already become an important growth market for the company. Since launching in the country earlier this year, Omio said Japan has emerged as one of its fastest-growing markets.
Travelers are using the platform to plan trips along Japan’s Golden Route, which connects major destinations including Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. Omio is also seeing demand for journeys to mountain regions, coastal communities and destinations outside the country’s largest cities.
The company believes its platform can make it easier for international visitors to navigate Japan’s extensive transportation network while also helping travelers discover locations beyond the most frequently visited tourism centers.
Granite-Integral’s investment and regional expertise are expected to support Omio’s efforts to build additional local partnerships and adapt its services to the needs of travelers and transportation providers in Japan and Southeast Asia.
The timing of the investment also adds momentum to Omio’s planned acquisition of Rail Europe. Together, the initiatives are intended to broaden Omio’s geographic reach, deepen its transportation network and strengthen its position as a global platform for booking ground travel.
