Ondas announced it has acquired Israel-based BIRD Aerosystems, a developer of airborne missile protection systems and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance technologies used by military, government and homeland security organizations worldwide. The acquisition marks Ondas’ entry into the airborne and unmanned aerial systems missile protection market. The deal adds sensing, mitigation, and mission command-and-control technologies to the company’s defense platform, expanding its capabilities across counter-UAS operations, border protection, maritime surveillance, and airspace monitoring.

Founded in Israel in 2001, BIRD Aerosystems develops airborne defense technologies designed to protect aircraft and deliver mission intelligence capabilities. The company’s aircraft protection systems are installed on more than 700 aircraft across over 40 aircraft types, supporting operators including the U.S. Army, NATO forces, air forces in the Asia-Pacific region and United Nations aviation fleets. Its technologies have been deployed in multiple global conflict zones and high-risk operational environments.

BIRD operates across two main technology pillars: Airborne Missile Protection Systems and Airborne Surveillance, Intelligence and Observation mission systems. Its AMPS platform integrates advanced missile warning sensors and Directional Infrared Countermeasure technologies designed to detect and neutralize incoming missile threats such as MANPADS.

The company’s ASIO solutions combine multi-mode radar, electro-optical sensors, communications intelligence and data fusion capabilities to support complex airborne surveillance missions. These technologies are used in border protection, maritime patrol, infrastructure monitoring and airspace security operations, delivering real-time intelligence to ground-based command centers.

Following the acquisition, Ondas plans to expand BIRD’s technologies into the rapidly growing market for protection of unmanned aerial platforms, developing missile protection systems designed specifically for next-generation autonomous aircraft operating in contested environments.

Ondas said the acquisition supports its strategy of expanding a systems-of-systems defense architecture integrating airborne sensing, aircraft protection technologies, autonomous ISR drones, counter-UAS capabilities and robotic ground platforms to support multi-domain security missions across allied defense markets.
