onsemi announced an expanded strategic collaboration with NIO Inc. to accelerate the development of next-generation 900V electric vehicle platforms, leveraging advanced silicon carbide technology to improve performance, efficiency, and scalability.

The partnership builds on a longstanding relationship between the two companies, evolving from earlier 400V architectures to high-voltage 900V systems that support faster charging, greater range, and enhanced vehicle performance. onsemi’s EliteSiC enhanced M3e technology plays a central role in enabling these advancements by reducing energy loss, improving thermal efficiency, and delivering stronger power output across electric drivetrains.

The upgraded platform is expected to deliver tangible benefits for drivers, including increased driving range through reduced energy dissipation, faster charging enabled by high-voltage systems, and more consistent acceleration under demanding conditions. The technology is also designed to enhance long-term reliability and performance across a range of operating environments.

onsemi’s EliteSiC solutions are already integrated into several of NIO’s latest vehicle platforms, including flagship models such as the ES9, with additional vehicles set to debut at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. The collaboration reflects a broader industry trend toward deeper integration between automakers and semiconductor companies as electric vehicles become more complex and power-intensive.

By aligning engineering roadmaps and enabling system-level optimization, the companies aim to accelerate time-to-market for advanced EV platforms while reducing development complexity. The partnership underscores the growing importance of semiconductor innovation in shaping the next generation of electric mobility.
