OpenAI and Hon Hai Technology Group, known globally as Foxconn, announced a new collaboration to accelerate the design and domestic manufacturing readiness of next-generation AI infrastructure hardware in the United States. The partnership will provide Foxconn with insight into OpenAI’s emerging hardware needs across the fast-growing AI sector, guiding the company’s design and development efforts for systems to be produced in its U.S. facilities. The initial agreement does not include purchase obligations, but OpenAI will have the opportunity to evaluate early systems and secure purchasing options.

The collaboration arrives as AI model capabilities expand at unprecedented speed, requiring a new category of purpose-built physical infrastructure to support increasingly intensive workloads. By combining OpenAI’s visibility into future model requirements with Foxconn’s engineering and manufacturing scale, the companies aim to strengthen domestic supply chains and accelerate the rollout of high-performance AI systems. Both companies emphasized that building this infrastructure within the United States is essential to supporting a resilient supply chain and strengthening American leadership in AI.

The initiative focuses on several coordinated design and manufacturing efforts to support rapid growth in AI infrastructure. The companies plan to co-design and engineer multiple generations of AI data center racks simultaneously, enabling hardware to keep pace with the fast-evolving needs of modern models. The collaboration also intends to streamline and fortify the U.S. supply chain by enhancing rack architecture for domestic manufacturing, broadening sourcing to include U.S. suppliers and chipsets, and expanding localized testing and assembly operations. In addition, Foxconn will manufacture essential AI data center components in the U.S., including cabling, cooling systems, networking equipment, and power systems, supporting the rapid construction of advanced compute environments and contributing to economic growth for local manufacturers and workers.
