OpenAI And PayPal Partnering To Enable Instant Checkout And Agentic Commerce In ChatGPT

By Amit Chowdhry ● Oct 29, 2025

PayPal has entered into a strategic partnership with OpenAI to integrate PayPal’s payments infrastructure and merchant catalogs directly into ChatGPT, introducing a new era of agentic commerce. By adopting the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), tens of millions of PayPal-connected merchants will now be discoverable within ChatGPT, allowing users to browse products and complete transactions seamlessly in just a few taps.

The integration leverages OpenAI Instant Checkout, powered by PayPal’s secure, scalable global payments network, enabling users to make purchases without leaving ChatGPT. Merchants participating in the ACP ecosystem will have their catalogs indexed and surfaced natively in ChatGPT via PayPal’s ACP server. This trusted, compliant access layer connects both small businesses and major retail brands across a wide range of categories, including fashion, electronics, and home improvement.

For merchants, the partnership opens a powerful new channel to reach consumers within conversational AI. For users, it transforms ChatGPT into a discovery and transaction hub capable of handling real-time shopping and payments.

Beyond the commerce integration, PayPal is expanding its internal use of OpenAI technology. The company will roll out ChatGPT Enterprise access to more than 24,000 employees and integrate OpenAI’s APIs and Codex tools to drive innovation, streamline workflows, and enhance developer productivity across its global organization.

This collaboration signifies one of the most comprehensive fusions yet between a global fintech leader and a generative AI platform—setting the foundation for frictionless, AI-driven digital commerce at scale.
