OpenAI is planning to consolidate its core products into a single desktop “superapp,” aiming to simplify the user experience and streamline internal operations, according to a company statement confirming earlier reporting via Reuters.
The new application is expected to integrate OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Codex coding platform, and browser into a unified interface. The move reflects a broader effort to reduce fragmentation across the company’s product suite and improve execution speed as competition intensifies in the artificial intelligence market.
OpenAI President Greg Brockman will temporarily oversee the product overhaul and related organizational changes. Meanwhile, Chief of Applications Fidji Simo will lead the company’s sales efforts as it prepares to bring the new desktop app to market.
The initiative comes as OpenAI looks to sharpen its competitive positioning, particularly against rivals developing similar AI-powered tools and platforms. By consolidating multiple offerings into a single environment, the company aims to better allocate resources and deliver a more cohesive user experience.
The company had previously launched a standalone desktop version of its Codex coding tool earlier this year, signaling a push into AI-driven software development workflows. The planned superapp represents a further step toward integrating those capabilities alongside conversational AI and browsing tools.
