OpenAI Hires Team From Convogo

The team behind Convogo, a software platform built to help executive coaches and HR leaders streamline leadership assessments and feedback reporting, is joining OpenAI, according to a LinkedIn post from Convogo co-founder Matt Cooper.

Cooper said Convogo started as a weekend hackathon inspired by a question from his mother, an executive coach, about whether AI could reduce the “drudgery” of writing reports so coaches could spend more time on higher-value, human work. And he said the early results exceeded expectations, and that the company has since supported thousands of coaches and partnered with major leadership development firms over the last two years.

In his post, Cooper noted that the move to OpenAI is the next step in a broader mission: closing what he described as a growing gap between rapidly improving AI models and the real-world outcomes professionals can achieve without better tools and experiences. He said Convogo’s work showed that “thoughtful, purpose-built experiences” are essential to translating model intelligence into practical results, and that joining OpenAI will allow the team to continue building products that make AI more accessible and useful across industries.

Cooper also thanked Convogo’s investors and supporters, including South Park Commons and OVO Fund, as well as family members, friends, advisors, and Renee Cooper, whom he credited with helping spark the company’s founding journey. He concluded the post with: “Time to build.”

KEY QUOTES:

“Huge news: the Convogo team is joining OpenAI! Convogo started as a weekend hackathon sparked by a question from my mom, an executive coach — could we build an AI tool to automate the drudgery of report writing so she could spend more time on the high-value, human coaching work that she loves?”

“AI keeps getting more and more intelligent, but without the right tooling, it’s hard to translate that intelligence into real outcomes. With every new model release, the gap between what’s possible and what’s realized gets wider.”
