OpenAI Launches ChatGPT For Financial Services With GPT-6 Astra And Built-In Premium Data

OpenAI announced the launch of ChatGPT for Financial Services, a specialized ChatGPT Work experience that combines GPT-6 Astra with built-in financial data, research tools, financial modeling capabilities, and tools for creating customized client materials. The product was developed with design input from Morgan Stanley and Evercore.

The new offering is initially focused on workflows common to investment banking and equity research, including company research, valuation analysis, LBO modeling, buyer screening, earnings analysis, and pitchbook preparation. OpenAI said its work with Morgan Stanley and Evercore helped identify reliable financial data access and high-quality artifact creation as major pain points for financial professionals.

A major component of ChatGPT for Financial Services is the integration of premium financial datasets directly into the product. Initial data providers include Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News, and Crunchbase, covering areas such as earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals, private companies, funding rounds, investors, and acquisitions.

OpenAI said these datasets are indexed and hosted on its infrastructure, eliminating the need for firms to negotiate separate contracts or configure connectors for the included data. The approach is also designed to improve retrieval accuracy and latency while enabling granular citations that allow users to trace financial figures and claims back to specific tables and passages.

For financial institutions that already maintain their own data subscriptions, OpenAI is working with S&P Capital IQ, LSEG, MSCI, Dow Jones Factiva, and Moody’s on shared sign-in and entitlement integrations. The goal is to let providers recognize users through their ChatGPT credentials and automatically provide access to data their firms are already entitled to use.

OpenAI has also optimized connections to commonly used financial-services providers and said its broader ecosystem includes more than 50 connectors, including Datasite, Box, Preqin, FactSet, and Intapp.

ChatGPT for Financial Services includes GPT-6 Astra, which OpenAI is positioning around three core capabilities required for financial work: information retrieval, financial reasoning, and artifact generation.

The model can analyze figures, tables, and accompanying notes in financial documents, perform financial analysis across multiple sources and periods, and turn the resulting work into documents, spreadsheets, presentations, charts, and visualizations.

OpenAI is also enabling financial institutions to configure ChatGPT around their existing workflows and presentation standards. Administrators can publish Excel, Word, and PowerPoint templates, along with firm style guidelines, so teams can convert analysis into valuation models, research reports, and pitchbooks using their organization’s preferred formats.

The product includes enterprise security and governance features intended for organizations handling confidential client information and material non-public information. These include SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, role-based access controls, configurable workspace retention, compliance log exports, and information barriers through separate workspaces.

OpenAI said business data submitted by firms is not used to train its models by default and is encrypted both at rest and in transit. Administrators can also manage access to supported skills and applications, including controlling application read and write permissions by role.

ChatGPT for Financial Services is available to eligible financial institutions, with OpenAI planning to use feedback from its financial-services partners to improve model training, products, and future expansion into additional areas of the industry.

KEY QUOTES:

“The promise of frontier research becomes real when it helps our people do the work that matters for our clients. We’re working alongside OpenAI to bring that intelligence into how we research companies, develop analysis, and prepare advice. We can test ideas together and help shape how the technology develops. For our firm, that means a product increasingly informed by our people, our methods, and the work that matters to our clients.”

Morgan Stanley

“At Evercore, we focus on the questions that matter most to our clients, and we have an opportunity to apply frontier intelligence to help address them. We are working closely with OpenAI to shape how its technology can deepen the insights behind our advice, while building on the judgment and rigorous standards our clients expect from Evercore.”

Evercore

“The value of financial research depends on the quality of its inputs, but reliable private market data can be difficult to find and validate from public sources. Now, Crunchbase’s structured private company data, covering companies, funding, investors, and acquisitions and continuously updated and verified, will be at the fingertips of financial teams using ChatGPT. With Crunchbase data, financial teams can move from questions to meaningful insight much faster.”

Jager McConnell, CEO of Crunchbase

“The private markets have always been difficult to see into, and getting a clear picture means piecing together data scattered across the market. PitchBook has spent nearly two decades closing that gap with data and insights that investors can rely on. Partnering with OpenAI is a sign of where this industry is headed: toward answers built on trusted data, not just speed.”

Tom Van Buskirk, Executive Vice President of Technology and Engineering at PitchBook
