OpenAI announced the launch of “OpenAI for Singapore,” a partnership with Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) designed to support the country’s National AI Strategy. The initiative includes a commitment of more than S$300 million and marks the company’s first Applied AI Lab outside of the United States.
The partnership will focus on helping organizations in Singapore deploy frontier AI technologies, building local AI talent, and expanding access to AI tools across enterprises, the public sector, and the broader community. OpenAI said Singapore has become a strategic hub for AI innovation and adoption, making it a natural location for the company’s first international Applied AI Lab.
As part of the initiative, OpenAI plans to create more than 200 technical roles in Singapore over the next several years, including expanding its Forward-Deployed Engineer teams that work directly with organizations to implement AI systems for operational and business use cases. The Applied AI Lab will focus on projects aligned with Singapore’s national priorities, including public services, finance, healthcare, and digital infrastructure.
The collaboration will also include talent development programs and educational initiatives. OpenAI said it plans to work with Singapore’s Ministry of Education and GovTech on AI-enabled learning tools, support educators through OpenAI Academy programs, and organize Codex for Teachers hackathons. The company also plans to launch training programs aimed at preparing local engineers and technology professionals for AI deployment work.
In addition, OpenAI and Singapore plan to support broader AI adoption among startups, small businesses, and micro-entrepreneurs through workshops, accelerator-style programs, and practical AI deployment support. The initiative is intended to help organizations use AI for areas such as customer service, operational efficiency, and product development.
Singapore officials said the partnership reflects the country’s commitment to strengthening enterprise AI adoption, building local AI capabilities, and creating high-quality jobs. OpenAI executives described Singapore as one of the company’s most important global markets for ChatGPT and Codex usage, reinforcing the country’s role as a growing AI hub in Asia.
