Oportun Names Former Discover Executive Bill Franklin As Chief Financial Officer

Oportun has appointed Bill Franklin as Chief Financial Officer, adding an executive with more than 20 years of financial leadership experience across consumer lending, capital markets and public-company finance.

Franklin’s appointment became effective September 8, 2026. He will lead Oportun’s finance organization and work with the company’s executive team on financial strategy, operating discipline and long-term value creation.

Franklin’s experience spans financial planning and analysis, capital markets, investor relations and corporate development.

At Discover Financial Services, he served as Senior Vice President and CFO of Consumer Banking, overseeing financial planning and analysis across Discover’s consumer lending and deposit operations, including its personal loans business.

He previously held leadership roles as Assistant Treasurer and Head of Investor Relations at Discover.

Oportun provides borrowing, savings and budgeting products.

Since inception, the company has provided more than $22.7 billion in credit, while reporting that its products have saved members more than $2.5 billion in interest and fees and helped members set aside an average of more than $1,800 annually.
