OpusClip: $20 Million Raised For AI-Based Video Editing Platform

By Amit Chowdhry • Mar 30, 2025

OpusClip, a generative AI-based video editing platform, recently announced a $20 million funding round by SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and others. This strategic round comes after a record year for OpusClip in which the company surpassed 10 million creators using its platform, creating more than 172 million clips. The company plans to use the funding to expand its team and roll out new AI-powered products.

OpusClip created the world’s first-ever multimodal AI clipping tool, allowing users to extract key moments from any video using natural language prompts. The platform utilizes the latest AI models to instantly analyze video content, cross-referencing it with the latest social media trends to determine the most compelling moments to clip.

The platform extracts highlights from long-form videos and automatically generates short, high-engagement clips optimized for TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and more.

The key features include:

1.) AI Clipping – Identify the most compelling hooks, extract highlights from different parts of your video, and rearrange them into cohesive viral short videos.

2.) AI Video Editor – Enhance video quality with animated captions, AI reframing, AI audio cleaning, and AI B-roll.

3.) AI Video Search (OpusSearch) – For professional creators and media businesses to search anything from their entire video library and get auto-suggested trending clips.

OpusClip has seen major growth in the last year, surpassing 10 million creators and businesses generating 170 million+ clips, which have amassed more than 57 billion views. And the company’s Creator Advisory Board features top video coaches and industry leaders like Jenny Holos, Jubilee, Jon Youshaei, Think Media, Univision and more, and shapes and refines the product. This has enabled the company to gain the trust of the world’s largest brands and creators, including Univision, Billboard, iHeartMedia, Visa, LinkedIn, Jubilee, Impact Theory, and Grant Cardone.

OpusClip was launched in 2022 by Young Zhao, Jay Wu, and Grace Wang, who previously led a 500-person social media talent agency before they saw the need to democratize video creation with AI, and thus OpusClip was created. And the company is actively hiring top AI talent and deepening partnerships with Google, OpenAI, and industry leaders to redefine the future of video content.
