Orca and Loopscale announced a merger that will combine their crypto trading, liquidity, credit, and vault infrastructure under a new company called Formation. Loopscale co-founder Luke Truitt will serve as CEO of Formation.

The existing Orca and Loopscale protocols will remain the foundation of the ORCA and xORCA token network.

Formation plans to develop additional capabilities spanning asset origination, issuance, liquidity, credit, vault strategies, and distribution.

The company is targeting financing requirements across emerging industries including artificial intelligence, energy, robotics, and defense.

Orca has processed more than $550 billion in trading volume since 2021.

Loopscale has more than $150 million in deposits and has facilitated over $2 billion in loans.

Formation said the combined infrastructure will give issuers a path from asset issuance through financing and secondary-market liquidity.

Over the next 12 months, the company plans to introduce additional tools for issuers and new capital allocation strategies alongside existing trading, lending, and vault products.

Formation is already working with companies including Figure, Shinhan Asset Management, Superstate, R3, and Securitize.

The company also plans to develop a path into regulated U.S. capital markets.

KEY QUOTES:

“The frontier economy is creating new business models and financing needs more rapidly than traditional market infrastructure is evolving to serve them. Every major technological revolution has been paired with a financial one. We’re at an inflection point that requires capital markets to keep pace with the industries reshaping the economy.”

Luke Truitt, CEO of Formation

“Orca has spent years building deep liquidity, and we’ve seen firsthand that liquidity alone isn’t enough to scale an asset. The greater challenge is building the credit and distribution those assets need to grow, and Orca and Loopscale built complementary pieces of that infrastructure.”

Christopher Montagano, Chief Strategy & Legal Officer of Orca
