Could you tell me more about your background? Milner said:
I’m the CEO and co-founder of ORION Security. I hold a BSc in Computer Science and began my career as a product manager at several companies before joining Epsagon. At Epsagon, I built and scaled multiple product teams and helped launch observability and security products used by large enterprises. In 2021, Epsagon was acquired by Cisco for approximately $500M, after which I worked closely with Fortune 500 customers. I was honored to be named to Forbes 30 Under 30, and today I’m focused on building the next generation of data security with ORION.
Formation Of The Company
How did the idea for the company come together? Milner shared:
The idea for ORION Security came from a real-world operational failure we saw up close. My co-founder and CTO, Jonathan Kreiner, experienced the limitations of traditional data loss prevention (DLP) firsthand while serving as Head of Application Security at a NASDAQ-traded company. His organization deployed a legacy DLP solution and spent the entire two-year contract trying to make it work.
Instead of preventing data loss, the tool overwhelmed the security team with false positives and endless alerts that weren’t real threats. The maintenance effort quickly became more expensive than the product itself, and despite all that effort, it never actually stopped a data leak.
That experience made one thing clear to us: the problem wasn’t poor configuration or lack of effort. The problem was the underlying technology model. Traditional, policy-based DLP simply wasn’t built for how data moves in modern, cloud-first, and AI-driven environments.
We started ORION to rethink data loss prevention from the ground up. Instead of relying on brittle policies and manual tuning, we focused on solving the root causes of DLP failures: a lack of context, excessive noise, and an inability to understand intent. ORION was built to address those core issues and make data security actually work in the real world.
Favorite Memory
What has been your favorite memory working for the company so far? Milner reflected:
My favorite memory at ORION Security is the moment we saw the product prevent a real data exfiltration incident in production with no policies, no manual tuning, and no prior configuration. It was the first time we knew we had fundamentally changed how data loss prevention could work.
The security team expected yet another flood of false positives, as they had experienced for years with traditional DLP tools. Instead, ORION surfaced a single, high-confidence incident with full context: what data was moving, who was involved, why it was happening, and what action to take. The team didn’t have to investigate for hours or second-guess the alert. They trusted it immediately.
That moment validated everything we were building toward. It proved that data loss prevention doesn’t have to be noisy, fragile, or operationally expensive. Seeing a real customer rely on ORION to stop a critical incident – and realizing we had finally solved the problem that inspired the company in the first place – is still the most meaningful memory for me.

Evolution Of The Company’s Technology
How has the company’s technology evolved since launching? Milner noted:
Early on, ORION Security focused on a small set of specific data loss prevention use cases to validate the core technology and prove that AI-driven detections could work in real production environments. The initial focus was on accurately identifying data loss indicators and preventing clear, high-risk data movement scenarios.
As the platform matured, we significantly expanded our support. We added new product lines, including a browser extension, an endpoint agent, and a growing set of native SaaS integrations. We also introduced support for AI tools and AI-driven workflows, recognizing early that data loss patterns were shifting toward generative AI and automation platforms.
Over time, the platform evolved from targeted prevention to generic, context-aware prevention. This allowed us to cover shadow IT and shadow AI use cases in which data moves through unmanaged tools and services without explicit approval or visibility.
Today, ORION provides broad, continuous coverage across endpoints, browsers, SaaS applications, cloud services, and AI tools, while maintaining the same AI-driven detection and prevention model we started with.
Significant Milestones
What have been some of the company’s most significant milestones? Milner cited:
One of the most important milestones for ORION Security was onboarding our first customer, which validated that our AI-driven approach to data loss prevention could work in real production environments.
Shortly after, we secured our first Fortune 500 customer. That was a critical moment, as it proved the platform could operate at enterprise scale, meet strict security requirements, and handle complex, high-volume data environments.
Most recently, we closed our Series A funding round, which reflected strong market validation and enabled us to accelerate product development, expand coverage, and scale our go-to-market efforts.
Together, these milestones mark ORION’s progression from early validation to enterprise adoption and growth.
Customer Success Stories
Can you share any specific customer success stories? Milner highlighted:
We can’t name the customer, but one incident clearly shows how ORION Security is used in practice.
At a large enterprise customer, ORION detected abnormal data movement from an executive account shortly after the individual was terminated. Within a short time window, the user attempted to exfiltrate more than 5,000 sensitive files, including internal financial forecasts, strategic planning documents, and executive performance reviews.
ORION’s AI detections flagged the activity based on risky data flows and behavioral context, not static rules. The platform automatically classified the data, recognized the elevated risk tied to the user’s status and behavior, and blocked the exfiltration in real time before the data left the organization.
The security team was alerted with full context and did not need to manually investigate or tune policies. The incident was contained immediately, preventing a potentially severe insider data breach involving highly sensitive executive information.
Funding/Revenue
How much funding have you received to date and can you share revenue metrics? Milner revealed:
We’ve raised $38 million to date. We can’t share specific revenue metrics, but what we can say is that we’ve reached 7-figure ARR in our first 5 months of go-to-market.
Differentiation From The Competition
What differentiates the company from its competition? Milner affirmed:
ORION is fundamentally different from traditional DLP vendors because it does not rely on policies as the foundation of data loss prevention.
Most DLP solutions are built around static policies, and newer vendors primarily try to improve those policies using AI. ORION takes a different approach. It uses AI to replace policies entirely, rather than optimize them.
ORION operates using a set of five proprietary AI agents that analyze every data movement within the organization in real time. Instead of matching predefined rules, the system understands the full business context behind each data flow, including what the data is, who is using it, how it is being accessed, and why it is moving.
Based on this contextual analysis, ORION prevents only genuinely risky data flows and allows legitimate business activity to continue, without requiring the organization to define or maintain a single security policy in its DLP tool. This architecture enables accurate prevention across scenarios that policy-based systems cannot anticipate.
Future Company Goals
What are some of the company’s future goals? Milner concluded:
ORION’s long-term goal is to become the best Data Loss Prevention product on the market and fundamentally change how data security is done.
Beyond product leadership, ORION’s goal is to reshape the data security landscape by proving that effective data protection does not require manual policies, constant tuning, or excessive operational overhead, and that data security can be accurate, scalable, and adaptive by design.
