ORIX USA, an investment and asset management firm, has appointed James Gruver as Managing Director and Head of Capital Formation, marking a strategic move to accelerate its growth and expand investor engagement.
Gruver, who will be based in New York, will lead the firm’s capital formation strategy, overseeing fundraising, product development, and investor engagement across all asset classes. He will report to Jeff Abrams, Group Head of Private Credit and Real Estate and a member of the executive committee.
The appointment comes as ORIX USA looks to scale its third-party capital base and strengthen its position as a global asset manager. Gruver brings more than 30 years of experience across institutional investment and wealth management, having held senior roles at BNY Mellon, Black River, Heitman, and Polen Capital. His experience spans private markets, hedge funds, and traditional asset classes.
ORIX USA, established in the United States in 1981, focuses on private credit, real estate, and private equity solutions for middle-market borrowers and investors. The firm combines its balance sheet with third-party capital to align interests with investors. As of the end of 2025, ORIX USA and its subsidiaries manage approximately $96.9 billion in assets, including $44 billion in funded assets and commitments and $52.9 billion in servicing and administering assets.
