Orrick: IP Practice Expanded With Three More Partner Hires

By Amit Chowdhry • Jan 22, 2026

Orrick has added three partners to its intellectual property practice, bringing in two New York-based litigators and one Los Angeles-based trial lawyer as the firm continues to build out its patent litigation bench across key U.S. venues. Joining in New York are Danielle Vincenti Tully and Michael B. Powell, both of whom focus on patent disputes in federal courts nationwide and proceedings at the U.S. International Trade Commission. In Los Angeles, Orrick has added Josh Glucoft, a patent and technology disputes partner with extensive experience running parallel district court, ITC and Patent Trial and Appeal Board matters.

Tully’s practice centers on high-stakes patent litigation and related proceedings across major jurisdictions for technology disputes, including the District of Delaware, the Western and Eastern Districts of Texas, and the Northern District of California. In addition to district court work, she handles investigations before the ITC, post-grant challenges at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and other appellate courts. Her broader counseling work includes portfolio development, diligence, enforcement strategy, licensing, and support for technology transactions.

Her professional recognition highlights both courtroom work and thought leadership. She has received a Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing for a co-authored Law360 article addressing Federal Circuit deference to PTAB decisions, and she has been cited across multiple Lawdragon guides, including the 500 Leading Lawyers in America, 500 Global IP Lawyers, and various Leading Litigators selections. She has also been named a Notable Litigator and Trial Attorney by Crain’s New York Business.

Powell similarly brings a national patent litigation practice spanning district courts and the ITC, with a technology footprint that ranges from medical devices and cybersecurity to wireless telecommunications, consumer products, and computer hardware and software. His matters cover the full lifecycle of patent disputes, from pre-suit investigation through discovery, dispositive motions, trial, and appeal. In addition to infringement litigation, he advises on IP licensing and transactions, standards-essential patents, and offensive and defensive patent analyses, including invalidity and non-infringement opinions.

Powell’s recognitions include listings in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America for Patent Law and Patent Litigation, selection as a Super Lawyers Rising Star, and recognition as a Rising Star by Legal Media Group.

On the West Coast, Glucoft adds trial and PTAB experience across a wide spectrum of patent and technology disputes. His work spans computer software and cybersecurity; networking and telecommunications technologies such as routers, switches, and VoIP; electronic devices including power converters; AR/VR and media technologies; processor architecture, fabrication, and packaging; logistics and robotics systems; transportation and trucking technology; and medical devices such as glucose monitors and cardiac defibrillators.

Glucoft is known for coordinating complex, multi-forum strategies involving district court litigation, ITC investigations, and PTAB proceedings. His experience includes examining and cross-examining expert and fact witnesses, delivering trial closings, and serving as lead counsel through Final Written Decisions in multiple inter partes reviews. Before joining Orrick, he was an IP litigation partner at Kirkland & Ellis and previously practiced at Irell & Manella.

The three additions broaden Orrick’s coverage in the busiest patent venues and reinforce its ability to staff matters that demand coordinated strategies across trial courts, the ITC, and the PTAB, particularly in disputes involving cutting-edge software, hardware, and life sciences technologies.
