Otter.ai Secures $320 Million Growth Investment From General Catalyst

Otter.ai has secured $320 million in growth financing from General Catalyst’s Customer Value Fund to accelerate the AI notetaking and conversational knowledge company’s enterprise expansion, international growth, go-to-market strategy, and product development.

The investment comes as Otter.ai expands its ambition beyond transcription to become a broader knowledge layer for enterprises. The company is developing technology to capture workplace conversations, connect them to organizational context, and turn the information into insights and actions.

Otter.ai has grown to more than 40 million users worldwide and said its technology is used by teams at more than 86% of Fortune 500 companies. The platform has transcribed more than 1 billion meetings, and the company estimates that customers have generated more than $1.5 billion in return on investment through time savings.

A major focus for the new capital will be developing enterprise agentic AI workflows. Otter.ai plans to use its conversational data and voice AI technology to help organizations prepare for meetings with more context, make decisions more efficiently, and automate actions based on discussions after meetings have concluded.

The company’s platform is built around Automatic Speech Recognition technology and speaker identification capabilities. Otter.ai is positioning those technologies as the foundation for what it describes as a voice system of record for enterprises, allowing information contained in conversations to become searchable and reusable organizational knowledge.

Otter.ai serves customers across industries including sales, consulting, education, financial services, professional services, and media. As the company expands, it plans to strengthen its enterprise go-to-market capabilities and expand internationally.

General Catalyst made the investment through its Customer Value Fund, or CVF. The investment strategy focuses on providing capital tied to customer acquisition and growth.

Otter.ai believes voice is a significant, largely untapped source of enterprise data. The company plans to build additional AI capabilities that can transform conversations into business insights and agent-driven workflows as organizations increasingly incorporate generative and agentic AI into their operations.
