Ottometric Appoints Axel Gern To Board Of Directors

By Amit Chowdhry • Jun 17, 2026

Ottometric announced that Axel Gern has joined its Board of Directors, strengthening the company’s leadership as it scales its platform for ADAS and autonomous vehicle development and validation.

Gern brings more than 20 years of experience in autonomous systems, ADAS engineering, and large-scale automotive software organizations. His background includes leadership roles at Mercedes-Benz, Daimler Truck, Torc Robotics, and Aeva Technologies.

He previously served as Senior Vice President of Engineering at Torc Robotics and Managing Director of Torc Europe, where he led teams focused on autonomous trucking systems and safety engineering. Before that, he served as Chief Technology Officer of Daimler Trucks’ Autonomous Technology Group, helping shape Daimler’s autonomous trucking strategy and broader transition toward software-defined commercial vehicles.

Ottometric said Gern’s experience spans key challenges in autonomous and ADAS development, including validation complexity, safety engineering, organizational scaling, release readiness, and the management of large-scale driving datasets across global vehicle programs.

The company said the automotive industry is facing growing pressure from expanding scenario libraries, tighter release timelines, increasing evidence requirements, and new regulatory demands under frameworks such as GSR2 and Euro NCAP 2026.

Ottometric’s platform is designed to help OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers automate and streamline ADAS and autonomous vehicle development, validation, and training workflows. The company combines AI, computer vision, big data infrastructure, and automotive expertise to turn raw data into actionable insights.

Gern’s appointment is expected to help shape Ottometric’s platform roadmap, with a focus on addressing the next-generation ADAS and autonomous-vehicle challenges, including requirements in commercial transportation.

KEY QUOTES:

“ADAS and autonomous systems are reaching a point where data workflows, operational efficiency, and evidence management become core engineering challenges.”

“I’ve led teams at Daimler Trucks, Torc, and elsewhere that were forced to solve these challenges at scale, and the Ottometric platform is exactly the solution we need. I’m excited to help Ottometric solve these pressing challenges across the automotive industry.”

Axel Gern, Board Member of Ottometric

“As vehicles become increasingly software-defined, validation and engineering complexity continue to scale rapidly.”

“Axel has firsthand experience building and scaling autonomous systems organizations through that transition. His perspective is highly valuable as the industry moves toward larger and more data-intensive validation programs.”
