Wearable technology company Ōura has acquired Doublepoint, a Helsinki-based startup specializing in AI-driven biometric gesture recognition, in a move aimed at expanding its capabilities in human-computer interaction and advancing its long-term vision for wearable AI.
Founded in 2020, Doublepoint develops technology that allows devices to interpret small hand movements and gestures, enabling users to control digital interfaces through natural physical actions. Ōura said the acquisition will strengthen its innovation roadmap and help build more intuitive ways for people to interact with technology in everyday environments.
As part of the deal, Ōura will integrate Doublepoint’s engineering team, including its four founders, into its global workforce. The team will primarily remain based in Helsinki and collaborate with Ōura’s teams worldwide. The acquisition is intended to accelerate the development of new AI-led experiences across Ōura’s wearable platform.
The companies believe gesture recognition, combined with continuous biometric sensing, could unlock a new generation of ambient computing. By pairing Doublepoint’s gesture technology with the physiological insights from the Oura Ring, the company aims to develop features that operate quietly in the background, making digital interactions faster and more natural.
Ōura said the technology could help power future interfaces across devices, services, and environments, supporting what the company describes as a broader “wearable AI” ecosystem. The company expects the next phase of wearable computing to blend voice interactions with gesture-based controls to create more seamless and adaptive user experiences.
The acquisition also reinforces Ōura’s ongoing investment in Finland, where the company maintains strong roots and technical talent. Doublepoint’s team will contribute to designing new AI-powered capabilities as Ōura expands beyond sleep and recovery tracking into additional health and technology use cases.
The transaction marks the fourth strategic acquisition by Ōura. Previous deals include purchases of Sparta Science, Veri, and Proxy, each aimed at expanding the company’s technology platform and user experience.
Ōura has experienced significant growth in recent years. The company has sold more than 5.5 million Oura Rings globally and was recently valued at approximately $11 billion as it continues to scale its membership base and expand its wearable health platform.
