By Amit Chowdhry ● Sep 24, 2024

Paul Hastings LLP announced that Keith Schomig has joined the firm as a partner in Washington, D.C. Joining from White & Case, Schomig specifically focuses on the areas of national security reviews before the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and non-U.S. equivalent agencies (FDI), and foreign ownership, control, or influence (FOCI) mitigation matters before the U.S. Departments of Defense and other national security agencies.

And Schomig’s 16 years of experience includes advising on significant private equity investments and large-scale mergers and acquisitions across various industries.

Schomig also counsels clients on many FOCI mitigation and compliance matters, including some of the most complex and sensitive national security agreements approved by the federal government.

Before entering private practice, Schomig was a flight officer in the U.S. Navy, flying combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

With clients that included Fortune 500 companies, leading private equity firms, and major sovereign wealth funds, Schomig’s experience includes strategic planning, risk assessment, due diligence, filing, mitigation negotiation, and implementation around CFIUS, FDI, and FOCI processes. And his arrival will broaden and deepen the national security and compliance support that the firm provides to top-tier clients such as SAP, Mitsubishi Corporation, and G42, among many others.

Paul Hastings has added over 20 partners to its litigation group since the start of 2023, including multiple who focus on defense, national security, and related issues. And they include cybersecurity, privacy, and securities litigation partner Michelle Reed in Dallas; former federal prosecutor and white collar and investigations partner Renato Mariotti in Chicago; and investigations and enforcement partner Brad Bondi and international arbitration partner Jonathan Hamilton, both in Washington, D.C.

KEY QUOTES:

“Keith brings decades of experience advising clients on complex cross-border transactions and litigations involving bet-the-company national security matters, CFIUS, and FOCI matters. In an environment of heightened regulatory challenges and increased government scrutiny on transactions and investigations, his ability to guide companies through business-critical issues involving national security issues will be a differentiator for our multinational and domestic clients.”

-Global Managing Partner Sherrese Smith
