Penske Media Reportedly In Talks To Acquire Unsold Vox Media Brands

Penske Media Corporation (PMC) is reportedly in talks to acquire the remaining unsold brands from Vox Media as part of a broader breakup of the media company, according to Adweek.

The portfolio under discussion includes Eater, The Verge, SB Nation, Popsugar, and The Dodo. The proposed transaction would reportedly transfer the remaining Vox Media assets to PMC as a single package, and Vox Media President Ryan Pauley is expected to join PMC as part of the deal.

The discussions follow news that James Murdoch acquired New York Magazine, the Vox Media Podcast Network, and Vox for $300 million. According to the report, the remaining Vox Media properties were left out of that transaction and are now being considered in a separate process involving PMC.

Adweek reported that the proposed agreement remains uncertain and could still fall through. The structure is reportedly an all-or-nothing transaction, meaning PMC would either acquire the entire group of remaining brands or none of them.

Financial terms tied to the potential PMC transaction were not disclosed. However, PMC already owns a 20% stake in Vox Media following a $100 million investment in the company made in 2023.

If completed, the acquisition would significantly expand PMC’s digital media portfolio and strengthen its position across entertainment, technology, sports, lifestyle, and consumer publishing categories through brands including The Verge, Eater, SB Nation, Popsugar, and The Dodo.
