Permira has appointed former Microsoft Developer Division President Julia Liuson as a Senior Adviser to its Technology team, adding more than three decades of software, developer tools, cloud and artificial intelligence experience as the investment firm pushes its portfolio companies toward AI-native operating models.
Liuson will be based in Menlo Park and work with Permira’s Technology sector team and portfolio-company leadership on AI adoption, product development and technology strategy.
She will also contribute product, engineering and AI expertise to Permira’s investment due diligence as the firm evaluates technology companies.
Liuson most recently served as President of Microsoft’s Developer Division, where she led Microsoft’s global developer business across programming languages, development tools, Azure developer services and DevSecOps platforms, including oversight of GitHub. Earlier in her Microsoft career, she led Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.
Her arrival gives Permira an adviser who has been directly involved in the software-development ecosystem during the rapid adoption of generative AI and AI-assisted programming.
Permira said its technology portfolio companies are collectively generating more than $800 million of AI-native annual recurring revenue, with that figure growing at more than 100% year over year. The firm sees AI not only as an investment theme but as an operating opportunity across its existing portfolio.
Liuson is expected to work with management teams on using AI to improve existing products, create new products and rethink how software is designed and developed.
The appointment follows Permira’s hiring of veteran technology investor Mike Hoffman as a Partner in June 2026, also based in Menlo Park, as the firm expands the investment and operating expertise supporting its technology strategy.
Permira describes itself as a specialist private equity and credit platform with a transatlantic focus and invests across technology, consumer, healthcare and services.
