Physical Superintelligence Raises $58 Million Seed To Build AI Physics Lab And Virtual Physicist Platform

Physical Superintelligence has launched with $58 million in seed funding to build what it describes as an AI-native physics laboratory staffed by virtual physicists capable of running large-scale simulations, testing hypotheses and designing physical systems. Breakthrough Energy Ventures led the financing.

Other participants include Dragon Global, Robot Ventures, Solari, Susa, SV Angel, Valkyrie, Balaji Srinivasan, Anthony Scaramucci and individual investors affiliated with OpenAI, Nvidia, SoftBank Energy, Oracle, Hugging Face, JUMP Capital and the a16z Scout Fund.

PSI was founded by Matt Pines, Alex Klokus and Dr. Alexander Wissner-Gross.

Its core platform, Emmy, is named after physicist Amalie Emmy Noether and is designed as a collection of virtual physicists operating on a sovereign reasoning engine supported by a curated inventory of simulations.

According to PSI, Emmy creates high-fidelity models of physical systems, breaks difficult research questions into verifiable hypotheses and tests those hypotheses in parallel. These remain company-described capabilities at launch.

The first commercial application is data center optimization.

PSI plans to use Emmy to model interactions between power, cooling, networking and computing in terrestrial and orbital data centers, with the goal of improving infrastructure design before construction and optimizing facilities already operating.

PSI is also the founding technical partner for the Fermi Explorer Mission, which it describes as the first AI-planned interstellar mission to Alpha Centauri.

The company said it has validated the mission’s underlying physics and identified a more efficient trajectory within its mass and budget limitations.

The seed capital will support recruiting, model development, simulation infrastructure and research across areas ranging from sensing to new computing substrates.
