Pixxel Raises $100 Million Series C Led By Temasek And Seraphim

Pixxel has raised $100 million in Series C funding co-led by Temasek and Seraphim, giving the space technology company additional capital to expand beyond hyperspectral imaging into a broader planetary infrastructure platform spanning advanced sensing satellites, Earth intelligence software, sovereign space systems and satellite manufacturing.

The round also included participation from new investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment, along with existing investors Radical Ventures, growX ventures and others.

The financing brings Pixxel’s total funding to $195 million and represents what the company described as the largest single funding round raised by a space technology company in India.

Founded around the development of hyperspectral Earth observation satellites, Pixxel has expanded its strategy to connect space-based sensing with software and satellite systems that can provide governments, companies and institutions with actionable information about changes occurring on Earth.

Hyperspectral imaging captures information across a much broader range of wavelengths than conventional imagery, enabling users to identify characteristics and changes in materials, vegetation, water, land and other features that may not be visible through traditional optical imaging.

Pixxel has since expanded the platform through Aurora, its Earth intelligence software, along with satellite systems designed for both commercial and sovereign missions.

The company describes the combination of sensors, software and space systems as the foundation of its broader planetary infrastructure strategy.

Pixxel plans to use the Series C financing across four major strategic priorities.

The company will continue developing its next-generation Honeybee hyperspectral constellation, which will expand its sensing capabilities into shortwave infrared, or SWIR.

Pixxel also plans to add additional sensing technologies including synthetic aperture radar and ultra-high-resolution optical imaging, broadening the types of Earth observation data the company can collect and analyze.

The first Honeybee satellite is expected to launch in 2027.

Pixxel will also continue investing in Aurora as the software layer designed to combine information from multiple sensing technologies and convert those datasets into intelligence that customers can use for decision-making.

Another major focus will be the company’s sovereign space business.

Pixxel plans to deepen its work with governments around the world on sovereign Earth observation systems spanning civil, defense and intelligence applications.

The company is also planning to increase satellite manufacturing capacity in both India and the U.S., supporting higher-rate production of advanced spacecraft as demand for dedicated commercial and government satellite systems grows.

The financing follows a period of significant operational expansion for Pixxel.

Over the past two years, the company has deployed six Firefly satellites, creating what Pixxel says is the world’s highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral constellation.

It has also launched Aurora and secured contracts with NASA and the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office.

In India, Pixxel has won multiple iDEX challenges from the Ministry of Defence and was selected to lead development of the country’s first public-private Earth observation constellation, which will consist of 12 satellites under IN-SPACe.

Pixxel has additionally unveiled plans for an orbital data-center demonstration satellite, extending its ambitions beyond Earth observation into space-based computing infrastructure.

The new funding gives Pixxel capital to scale those initiatives while expanding its position across a larger portion of the space technology value chain.

Rather than focusing solely on building hyperspectral satellites, the company is increasingly positioning itself as an integrated provider of sensing hardware, satellite manufacturing, sovereign systems and AI-enabled Earth intelligence software.
