Planbase has launched what it calls the first AI-native employee management platform designed specifically for healthcare clinics, announcing the release along with $2.1 million in funding backed by Y Combinator, LocalGlobe, and a group of prominent angel investors. The company stated that the funding will support expansion into additional mid-sized and large clinics across the United States, as well as the hiring of software engineers to accelerate product development.
The platform is built to automate complex administrative workflows involved in managing medical staff. These processes often include onboarding, license and credential tracking, forecasting patient demand, scheduling for both providers and patients, payroll, and performance oversight. Planbase stated that the system can reduce administrative labor in large clinics by hundreds or thousands of hours per month, enabling doctors and nurses to focus more on patient care while lowering staffing and operational costs.
Co-founders Joe Shearman and Jack Light previously built an AI forecasting platform that originated from research at the University of Chicago and was supported by Harvard Innovation Labs. The founders noted that legacy workforce systems were not designed for healthcare environments and do not leverage recent advances in AI.
Clinics using Planbase’s system are already managing more than 5,000 providers collectively serving over 30 million patients. The platform integrates with major EMR and EHR systems, enabling clinics to automate workflows without disrupting existing operations.
An early customer using the platform is OpenLoop, a white-label telehealth provider that works with thousands of doctors across the U.S. Planbase stated that OpenLoop has utilized the platform to automate scheduling workflows and support rapid scaling across new areas of care delivery.
The platform features interactive interfaces that enable staff to ask operational questions and generate customized workflows, as well as predictive analytics to model patient volume and staffing needs. Additionally, it includes agent-based automation that handles credential verification and compliance-related tasks previously managed by large support teams.
LocalGlobe noted that Planbase has demonstrated measurable time savings and operational improvement at clinics already using the platform. The company said demand for more efficient workforce management has grown as more clinics adopt hybrid care models that include in-person, phone, text, and video interactions.
KEY QUOTES:
“Planbase has been crucial to our growth story. It’s an amazing AI tool that’s completely changed how we operate. Planbase has essentially automated many of our scheduling workflows and really improved how we handle all the new operations and areas we’re expanding into. We’ve already increased patient volume by 40% and reduced scheduling time by 70% across our entire provider operations team.”
Noah Van Eldik, Practice Manager at OpenLoop
“We were immediately impressed by Joe and Jack and their ability to zero in on a very practical use case for AI in healthcare. The fact that they have already signed multiple large health clinics and demonstrated a concrete ROI of hundreds of hours a month in time savings shows how necessary an AI-native solution is for this market. We’re excited to work alongside Planbase as they make this platform a must-have for healthcare clinics.”
Emma Phillips, LocalGlobe
“We’re thrilled to officially launch our solution and receive backing from a set of investors who are experts in AI and healthcare and who will be a great resource as we scale our solution to more clinics. Today clinics are overwhelmed with all the complex tasks required with workforce management, especially in hybrid and telehealth models where doctors interact with patients across in-person, phone, text and video channels. This set of tasks around scheduling and pay, as well as patient volume predictions, are ideal for AI to automate so doctors and nurses can spend more time on patient care, and clinics reduce risks of costly human errors.”
Joe Shearman, Co-Founder of Planbase
“The enormous advances in AI in the last year has made it possible to create very simple interfaces to complex workflows so any doctor or nurse can now type in a query and get answers unique to their practice and set of challenges. We’re proud to deliver this solution to clinics so they can operate more efficiently and cost effectively, better utilizing their staff and reducing hours on time-consuming admin tasks.”
Jack Light, Co-Founder of Planbase
